BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma In Sports Performance & Excellence

Purpose of the course

The purpose of the course is to improve your knowledge of sports coaching and other relevant areas of sport which can be used to improve a sports performer’s performance. You will be studying a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification which is equivalent to 3 A Levels UCAS Points. The nature of our course is to not only help you improve as a footballer but more importantly given you skills & theoretical knowledge and to progress in to higher education, sports coaching jobs or other sports related fields but also employment in many sectors.

During the course you will study areas such as Sports Coaching, Sports Injuries, Nutrition, Psychology, Fitness Testing, Fitness Programming, Talent Identification, Anatomy & Physiology, Sports Massage and Sports Performance Analysis.

Entry Requirements

To gain a place on our Football & Education Course you will need to achieve a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (ideally these Maths & English Language). If Maths & English are not achieved then these can be worked on during the duration of the course through specialist Maths & English lesson & tutors at Reaseheath College.

Also, ideally you will have not only a strong interest in football, but also being coached and willingness to improve under the coaching of UEFA qualified coaches such as Ray Walker (Ex Port Vale & Aston Villa) & Steve Jones (Ex Crewe Alexandra, Burnley, Motherwell & Northern Ireland and now Nantwich Town First Team Coach).

How the course is structured

The course is structured and takes place at the Crewe Alexandra Soccer Centre and Reaseheath College, with training & home fixtures taking place at the Soccer Centre. If any learners need to re do Maths & English GCSE then this takes place at Reaseheath College (transport taken care of by ourselves for this) under their specialised staff. The BTEC education delivery is taken by our trained tutors who are based at Crewe Alexandra FC.

In terms of the football we participate in the National League U19 Alliance and the ECFA Colleges league, with our fixtures taking place during the week days. Within the course there will be opportunities to gain coaching qualifications and experience, as well as coaching hours (paid) by coaching for Crewe Alexandra FC Community Department in aspects such as Primary Schools & Community Sessions. There is also opportunities to gain referee qualifications and experience by refereeing in the Soccer Centre Mini Leagues.

We also have access to a state of the art gym, where we do specific fitness & recovery training sessions with a personal trainer who works at the gym.

Pathways after the Course

When you have completed the course you will gain a BTEC Extended Diploma which is accepted by universities, particular in areas of Sports Coaching, Sports Therapy, and Physiotherapy & Teacher Education. There is also opportunities for learners to go to University and play football in America through our network of America Sports Recruitment Companies.

The qualifications and experience gained through the course will also allow leaners to progress straight into vocational working environments within Sport, Leisure and Fitness or aspects such as apprenticeships or direct employment. Throughout the course we will try to teach and enhance a variety of life skills which can be taken across any potential future path a learner decides to take.
